date night at blue bay

Blue Bay - Portsmouth, Dominica
Type of Food - french, creole, swiss
The menu: fish, goat, chicken, spaghetti, and lobster

You walk down this dirt path toward the bay and you veer to the right up a concrete slab and as you turn the corner you see the deck- about 8 tables and a  bar... it overlooks the bay and all the boats. The ac is the breeze. The service is ummm... well... the lack of service is just sort of expected, does that make sense? I really don't think that people should leave their country, come to a completely new and vastly different one and expect the things that they are accustomed to having.  I imagine that the owner of Blue Bay lives far away and its run by management that may very well be underpaid... so- whatever.
The food is great! The atmosphere is wonderful, relaxing and its in a part of the town that is very authentic. When we eat here I feel like I am really in the caribbean. Surrounded by locals and sailors- people who sail around the world and dock on different shores and taste the island... How romantic!!! Romantic in an individual way - not in the regular sense of the word. I love it! If you are in the area- make sure you stop here and have the lobster. For 80 eastern caribbean dollars ( about 30 usd ) You are served 10 fairly large lobster tails, you get a delicious salad, rice, and breadfruit cake - a native ground provision, much like a potato but "More bland though" as Russ described it.
For dessert they have an apple crisp - its 23ec and I would just skip it... honestly, have another glass of wine, or two, a glass of red wine is 11ec... you have to pick your poison.
First we have to call a taxi

Ponder over the menu

Eat our delicious lobster!

  1. that looks DELICIOUS! I had the same experience in Costa Rica with Ben. There was absolutely NO SERVICE (compared to the states) when we went out to eat and that is perfectly fine. walking everywhere, the breeze being the ac... sounds all too familiar.
